See the melt value of every coin at today's spot price.

CoinManagerPro works out melt value from the coin's metal content and the latest spot price for gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. When a coin's price falls under its melt value, you get a price alert.

Melt value shows when the coin's metal content is known, from the coin's own fields or its PCGS cert data.

A coin page in CoinManagerPro for an 1881-S Morgan dollar, PCGS MS64. Silver spot is $32.50 per troy ounce, the coin holds 0.7735 ounces of pure silver from its PCGS cert data, and its melt value is $25.14. Under it, a price alert says a 2024 American Gold Eagle has a metal value of $2,640, above its value of $2,450.

What melt value does

Melt value is the worth of the pure metal in one coin at the latest spot price.

Spot prices for four metals

CoinManagerPro fetches gold, silver, platinum, and palladium prices during market hours and keeps their history.

Metal content from PCGS cert data

For a coin with a PCGS cert lookup, CoinManagerPro reads the coin's weight and metal content, such as 90% silver.

Your own metal weight

Enter the metal and the troy ounces of pure metal on any coin, bar, or round. Melt value uses those first.

Melt value on the coin page

The coin page shows the spot price, the troy ounces of pure metal, and the melt value, with where the content came from.

Under-melt price alerts

Each day, CoinManagerPro checks the coins in stock. A coin with a value or Flow Dealers price under its melt value gets an alert.

Metal price alerts

Set a price for gold, silver, platinum, or palladium. You get a notification and an email once when spot crosses it.

Used in AI valuations

Each AI valuation gets the spot prices. For bullion and coins near melt, the estimate starts from melt.

On or off for your workspace

Turn melt value and spot prices on or off in settings. It is on by default for a dealer who deals in bullion.

How melt value is worked out

01

Find the metal content

CoinManagerPro uses the coin's metal and its pure metal in troy ounces. When those are empty, it uses the weight and metal content from the PCGS cert data.

02

Get the latest spot price

It takes the most recent price per troy ounce for each metal in the coin.

03

Multiply

Pure metal in troy ounces times spot is the melt value. A Morgan dollar has 26.73 grams at 90% silver, which is 0.7735 troy ounces of silver.

04

Compare with your price

When the melt value is higher than the coin's value or its Flow Dealers price, a price alert opens.

Questions about melt value

Which metals count toward melt value?

Gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. Copper, nickel, and other base metals are left out of melt value.

Where do the spot prices come from?

From market data that CoinManagerPro fetches every few minutes during market hours. The coin page shows the price per troy ounce it used.

Why does a coin show no melt value?

The metal content is unknown. Enter the metal and the pure metal in troy ounces on the coin, or look up its PCGS cert. Until then, the coin page shows the melt value from the coin's last AI valuation, if it has one.

Does a below-melt alert come back every time spot moves?

No. When you dismiss a below-melt alert, it stays dismissed until the coin's value or asking price changes.

Does it work for junk silver and 40% silver coins?

Yes. A coin with PCGS cert data gets its metal content from it, such as 90% or 40% silver. For a raw coin, enter the troy ounces of pure silver on the coin.
